If you've tried to solo the Echo of Mephisto in Season 13, you'll know the fight doesn't care how confident you felt walking in. You can have tidy resist rolls, clean aspects, and a stash full of Diablo 4 Items, and still get flattened in ten seconds if you treat it like a normal boss. I made that mistake early on. I kept chasing more damage, thinking one better burst window would fix everything. It didn't. Mephisto punishes panic, bad spacing, and greedy attacks far more than weak gear.

Why damage companions fall apart

You should still aim for the Shadow Resistance cap, of course, and the Mercenary-Link system lets you squeeze even more value from that investment. Control the room, not just the boss

The fight gets much easier once you start moving your mercenary on purpose. Don't just let them wander. Send the Paladin across the arena before Mephisto starts lining up Languish, and you can pull that beam away from your main damage angle. It's awkward at first. You'll misclick, lose track of your own feet, and probably eat a pool or two. Stick with it. After a few pulls, you'll begin to see the arena differently. You're not only dodging attacks anymore. You're shaping where the danger goes.

Keep your backup plan ready

Mercenary Potions are easy to forget until the last quarter of the fight, which is exactly when you need them most. If your Paladin drops during the enraged phase, don't wait and hope things calm down. They won't. Bring them back fast, let the taunt buy space, and use that breathing room to rebuild your rhythm.
